The Heart of the Voice Over Community

As I write this, it’s the day after Valentine’s Day, and I’m just thinking about the incredible heart of the voiceover community.

Thanks to Facebook and other social media, voiceover artists from around the world have created a world of their own online. We meet virtually every day, even if it’s just to check in to see how everyone’s day is going. Sometimes, there are lengthy discussions about technical issues, professional audio equipment, business practices, coaching, or how to move into the next level in our careers. Often, the “nest is whacked”.

The most important thing is that we come to know each other even if we’ve never met in person. We are generous with each other. We share each other’s joy and sorrow. We congratulate and cheer each others’ successes, we squabble, we donate to causes near and dear to the hearts of our members, we share in and console a member’s grief. We are truly a community, a village, a family.

This week, we lost a beautiful voice in our community, Vanessa Hart, wonderful audiobook narrator, a strong voice in our community, a beautiful and generous person. This solemn surprise, hit us all hard. Even those who had never met or communicated direcly with Vanessa are feeling the loss and the pain.

This group of like minded (or not) individual voice over talent who most often work alone in our private studios comes together daily to share with our “family”. Each and every one of us is the heart and soul of the voice over community.
